21 tips for a happier and healthier 2021

As we move towards a new year many of us make resolutions. Often our resolutions look at things we want to stop ourselves from doing e.g. “eating less”, “drinking less alcohol” etc. My tips for making successful change are about focusing on what we can add into our lives in 2021. Start by choosing just one of these changes and notice any positive changes. Here are my 21 tips 1. Add more fruit and vegetables to your daily diet maybe in a soup or a smoothie. 2. Add one new healthy food to your diet per week. 3. Keep healthy snacks at hand. 4. Drink one extra glass of water per day. 5. Start your day with a warm hot water and a slice of lemon. 6. If you’ve been sitting for a while get up and move your body every hour during the day. 7. Include a couple of minutes of strengthening exercise into your day e.g. lunges, squats. 8. Raise your heart rate for a few minutes maybe by jogging on the spot or doing jumping jacks 9. Walk outside in the fresh air every day, start with 10-15 minutes. 10. Put on a great song and dance around the kitchen; one of my favourites is “Proud Mary” 11. Skipping with a skipping rope can be great fun and is great for cardiovascular fitness. 12. Include some balance exercise into your day. Dr Chatterjee’s clock workout may be useful https://drchatterjee.com/the-clock-workout-3-3-core-clocks/ 13. Wake up your body in the morning with a 5-10 minute yoga stretch. 14. Meditate for 5 – 10 minutes each morning. 15. Listen to a wellbeing podcast while you’re walking, gardening, cooking or cleaning. 16. Create a calm space in your home to recharge: a comfortable chair, candle, cushion etc. 17. End each day thinking of 3 things that you’re grateful for or have gone well that day. 18. Take a few minutes to get in touch with someone you’ve not been in touch with for a while. 19. Improve connection with those you live with by switching off devices at mealtimes. 20. Give someone an unexpected compliment. 21. Say thank you to those people in your life that you’re grateful to. Make 2021 your healthiest and happiest year yet. Small changes can have a ripple effect on all areas of our lives and on those that we love. Start with adding one small change into your life, stick with it and see and feel the benefits. If you would like greater support in making positive change I offer a number of 6 week programmes to help you to live a more balanced and healthier life. “Motivation for change” and “Building Strong Foundations for Health” are two of my most popular programmes.
